USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park

Highlights / General details

Tour a real WW II submarine. Launched into service exactly one year after the infamous December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, the USS Bowfin measures 312 feet long. Nicknamed “The Pearl Harbor Avenger,” the submarine embarked upon nine war patrols during World War II.

Tour The Pacific Submarine Museum:

This self-guided, narrated tour covers the entire history of submarine warfare from the first attempts in 1776, through WWI and WWII to today’s nuclear submarines.

Experience life in a narrow metal tube beneath the sea:

Admission includes a free self-guided, narrated tour below decks where you can feel how compact life was for up to 80 submariners operating this war vessel. Stand at battle stations in the forward and aft torpedo compartments, in her control, engine rooms and more.

Learn about submarine warfare:

Armed with an array of guns and up to 24 torpedoes at one time, the Bowfin engaged in a “silent service” designed to take the war to the enemy. The vessel sank 44 ships during her commission.

Waterfront Memorial:

Pause to reflect at the Waterfront Memorial that overlooks tranquil Pearl Harbor. Read fascinating stories about the 52 American submarines lost during WWII while paying tribute to more than 3,600 submariners who gave their lives in service to their country, now “On Eternal Patrol.”

Outdoor Exhibits:

Complete your experience with an exploration of additional exhibits located on park grounds: peer through a periscope in a conning tower, check out a missile that delivered mail, a submarine rescue chamber and more — including Kaiten, a manned suicide Imperial Japanese Navy torpedo.
